As an African American, it distresses me that the media chooses only to highlight those of us who are criminals, entertainers, athletes, or the occasional politician when they've gone bad, or are making trouble. Nobody talks about Black Scientists, Mathematicians, Geeks, or Geniuses, and that is a shame, because the world needs to know that these folks exist. Especially important to me are African American scientists who are also women, and yes, they exist, too!
I am using this page to help raise your consciousness about African and African American scientists of today and yesterday by providing links to organizations and listings of Black scientists. I hope that the works of these men and women will inspire you, and help to dispel any negative stereotypes that you may have about Africans and African Americans, especially regarding our intellectual abilities.
