Days 2 and 3--Friday, September 5, 2003 and Saturday, September 6, 2003.
Some
Delaware shotz...
Welcome
To Delaware! (Photo by Tim Wheat)
Today
was the hardest day. We marched 16 miles,
but
at least it was sunny! We started a little late from the church,
but
we went for 2 miles, then, stopped for breakfast. About an
hour
after we resumed, ADAPT crossed into Delaware.

Rick
from Denver.
On
day 2, we spent the night in the parking lot at Goodwill. There was a large
banner welcoming us. Staff people gave each marcher a cloth bag filled
with goodies. They let us have the use of the building to go to the bathrooms.
We
learned that Erik from Philly had a stroke, and was taken to the hospital.
I hope and pray that he will be okay. Jimmi went with him. I'm worried
because I really love Erik and Jimmi; they are my brothers. I didn't know
what else to do, so I found a huge piece of cardboard, and I made Erik
a get well card. I got Sher from Tennessee, who is an artist, to draw a
huge ADAPT logo on it, then, I got everyone to sign it. Johnny took it
to him the next day.
Day 3
ADAPT
marched into downtown Wilmington for a press rally at Rodney Square. For
some reason, my electric wheelchair wouldn't charge, and I had to use my
manual. To be honest, I was having a really hard time with the electric,
being a new driver and all, so I really didn't mind having to use the manual.
Here's
a shot I took at the rally of our 150 ft. Stolen Lives banner.
The
banner has pictures and stories of people around the country
who
were in nursing homes and other institutions, but who were
able
to get out. My Popz is on the banner. You'll see it later...
Levi
helped me take this pic of Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE), one of the
MiCASSA
co-sponsors. He was one of several dignitaries who
spoke
at the rally. (Hear part of his speech here
and here) The
mayor
proclaimed it Free Our People Day in Wilmington.
Mayoral
proclaimations were also made in Philadelphia, and
Austin,
TX.
We
spent the night of day 3 in the parking lot of Victory Fellowship Church,
a HUGE church outside of Wilmington. Dawn and I both pulled security duty,
but on different shifts.
