Where: From the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia to Washington, D.C.
Time:
10:00 am
“From The Liberty Bell To Capitol Hill”
40 people from Colorado will be marching from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. to push for passage of MiCASSA, S. 971, and H.R. 2032. MiCASSA will allow people with disabilities who are in nursing homes and other institutions the right to receive attendant services in their homes. “MiCASSA is so important because people are dying in nursing homes”, says Anita Cameron, of Denver, who will be marching from Philadelphia. “Congress must know what we’ll endure to get it passed.” The March will take place from September 4th, until September 17th, 2003. 150 ADAPT members will march from the Liberty Bell to Capitol Hill, on a route that will wind through Delaware and Maryland. In Baltimore, an additional 80 marchers will meet us. “For me, MiCASSA means freedom”, says Gil Casarez, a veteran, who will march from Baltimore. “Everyone deserves the right to live and work in their communities.” ADAPT will then continue our march to Washington, D.C. where we’ll be met by 20,000 activists and MiCASSA supporters for a rally at Upper Senate Park at 1:00 pm. The next day, ADAPT will visit senators and congress people to encourage their support for this important piece of legislation. For March route information, click here.
