Meet Gil
                                                                          ADAPT Organizer
Hi, and welcome! Here's where you'll meet one of my favorite guys in ADAPT--Gil Casarez, Jr. Gil is originally from Austin, Texas, but he now lives in Denver. He has been an ADAPT member for 18 years. Gil may look like a wily fellow, but he is a true gentleman, and that's why all the ladies love him! Gil has a nickname for everyone that he meets. His nickname for me is Trees, because to him, my hair looks like long tree trunks. His nickname is Wolfman, because he loves to howl like a wolf when he's being funny. He is fun-loving and playful, and always manages to lift the spirits of anyone that he is around. It is obvious that Gil loves life, and you never see him without a smile on his handsome face!

Gil is a person who believes in giving back to his community. He works at Atlantis Community, and is Secretary of the Board of Directors. Gil used to be a housing specialist, finding accessible housing for people with disabilities. He also worked at a bank, in the Trusts department. Gil does volunteer work for numerous community organizations. I often wonder where he gets the time and the energy! He is biligual, and works with a number of Hispanic organizations. Every Monday, without fail, he goes and volunteers at Colorado's Ocean Journey, a huge aquarium in downtown Denver. Gil also loves children (and they love him too!), so three times a week, he tutors kids at a local public school. Gil is also a member of the Knights Of Columbus, a Catholic organization.

Gil is a soldier, and is proud of his service to his country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. He is also a member of PVA--Paralyzed Veterans of America. Here is a link to that organization.

Gil is also an athlete. He plays wheelchair rugby, which is every bit as rough and as demanding as regular rugby. He coaches young people with disabilities in a number of sports. Last year, Gil participated in the Para-Olympics, and brought home two Golds, a Silver, and a Bronze Medal!

So there! You've met Gil, and you've found out what a cool person he is! You can go back to the main page of the ADAPT site, or go back home and see what else I've done around the house!
