Dawn Russell
                                                                ADAPT Organizer

Welcome! Come on in, and meet my buddy, Dawn Russell. Dawn is one of my closest friends in ADAPT. We are the same age, and we like the same color--purple. Dawn's birthday is the day before mine, and we have quite a few things in common! We are often as thick as thieves on ADAPT actions--if you see me, you'll see Dawn, or she'll be close by.

Dawn was born in the Mississippi Delta, but she came to Denver in 1999. She spent her childhood in Mississippi, Memphis, TN, and Texas. She has a most enchanting Southern accent, and she is very proud of her Southern roots! Dawn has a BA in Anthropology from the University of Memphis.

Dawn is a very passionate person, and a natural leader. She joined ADAPT in 1996. She worked for the Memphis Center for Independent Living as an Independent Living Specialist. Dawn also served in AmeriCorps, and she served on the Board of Directors of the Mid-South ARC. She also participated in Partners In Policymaking in Tennesse, and the State Resource Team. From 1999 until 2001, Dawn worked at Atlantis Community as the section 8 Housing Administrator. She administrered 172 Section 8 vouchers issued through the Colorado Division of Housing. Dawn currently serves on the Governor's Long Term Care Commission, and she worked in Boulder as an Independent Living Instructor. She's now back at Atlantis working in the Home Modification department.

I met Dawn on an ADAPT action in Houston, TX, where we quickly hit it off, and discovered that we were kindred spirits. We've been arrested together quite a few times over the years. We're both passionate, emotional, and loud-mouthed, and though we both have emerged as national leaders in ADAPT, we both (especially I), have a penchant for getting into deep hot water with the upper echelon leaders of ADAPT. Oh well, they all love us anyway!

Dawn has a beautiful home in Littleton, Colorado, which she shares with her fiance, David, and her cool dog, Brooklyn. She is an interior design fanatic, and is always doing something nice to her home. She reminds me a lot of my twin sister, Yvette. Dawn also spends quite a lot of time dolling herself up. I don't really understand why, as she is naturally a very pretty woman! But Dawn loves going out and getting her hair and nails fixed, and she has the prettiest nails of any woman I know. Dawn also enjoys going out for coffee, or drinks, and sometimes, I go out with her and David. Often, on ADAPT trips, Dawn and I will go out cruising around town. We always find the coolest places to shop and to eat!

Did you like my homegirl, Dawn? She's pretty neat, isn't she? You can go back to the main page of the ADAPT site, or go back home and see what's happening elsewhere in the house!

You are visitor #to meet Dawn.
